Preternatural Loveliness (2016-18)
I have created a collection of flora of various genus that showcase the hybridity, symbiosis, and somewhat monstrous forms that have been synthesized in this marriage of the natural world and the man-made world. All of my works are made through combining polyurethane spray foam, real plants, and preserved plants. Some incorporate the colors and styles of real life plants, some are a direct translation, while others are altered to become a new breed. These plants would not live together naturally. Much like in a greenhouse, my plants have been brought together under one roof: a space for them to grow as one, to observe their coexistence, and to be cared for and appreciated.
A mix of various musicians cut and edited from songs that make me feel good. Ambient tracks that create a tranquil, relaxed, possibly eerie space; an interpretation of the album Plantasia (1976), composed by Mort Garson, music meant for plants.
